Does the Devil cause abuse? Easier explanations are available, columnist notes

Father Gabriele Amorth, the longtime exorcist of the Rome diocese, has drawn widespread attention this week for suggesting that scandals in the Church are related to the active presence of the Devil in Rome.
"Well, if you’re a hammer, every problem looks like a nail," reasons Anthony Sacramone, writing for First Things online. But the available evidence provides explanations for the scandals, without requiring any theory about Satanic activities.
