Caritas: Protect migrant domestic workers

Caritas Internationalis, the international consortium of Catholic relief agencies, is urging the international community to increase legal protection for migrant domestic workers, some of whom are the victims of human trafficking.

“Apart from the risk of abuse, domestic workers may have no social security protection, can be overworked and underpaid,” said Martina Liebsch, director of policy. “Many fear their employers’ reprisals if they complain to the authorities and thus continue to live as modern day slaves.”
