Some Vatican officials unhappy with postulator's book on John Paul II
CWN - February 12, 2010
A new book on the life of Pope John Paul II, written by the postulator for his cause of beatification, has earned wide publicity in the secular media-- particularly with its revelations about the late Pontiff's practices of self-mortification. But Why He Is a Saint , by Msgr. Slawomir Oder, has not been popular with Vatican officials. Some Church officials feel that Msgr. Oder improperly revealed information that should remain confidential until the investigation for his beatification is completed.

An atheist colleague at work approached me and gloated over the revelations of JPI's mortification practices. Though I turned the conversation to good purpose, I was dismayed at how this private information is soiled by secular hands. Pearls before swine.
