New Mexico bishops oppose tax on food
CWN - February 12, 2010
The bishops of New Mexico have announced their opposition to a state senate measure that would include food among the items covered by the state sales tax.
“This is a tax on the poorest people of New Mexico,” said Allen Sanchez of the New Mexico Conference of Catholic Bishops. “This is the most regressive tax to come out of this building.”
