Now in retirement, "Baum is now the second longest serving cardinal in American history, behind only the legendary Cardinal James Gibbons of Baltimore."

I am delighted to read a POSITIVE and really uplifting article in the pages of the NCR. Cardinal Baum ordained me in 1977, and to me he has always been the walking embodiment of a Christian gentleman. It is so good to see him recognized. John Allen is an honest reporter, and I am not surprised to see this fine article signed by him.
