Pope Benedict XVI traveled across Rome on December 27 to visit a soup kitchen run by the Sant’Egidio community in the city’s Trastevere section. After sharing a meal with guests there, the Pope remarked: “What is happening here today is what happens in homes: those who serve and help merge with those who are helped and served, and pride of place is given to those who have greatest need.”
Security was tightened noticeably for the Pope’s visit after an incident on Christmas Eve in which an apparently unstable woman leap over a barrier and grabbed the Pontiff, pulling him to the floor.
