Pope to speak at Oxford, Westminster Hall during September visit to England

December 10, 2009

Pope Benedict XVI will make a 4-day visit to England beginning on September 16, according to officials involved in planning for the official state visit. Although the Vatican has not formally announced plans for the trip, officials of the Holy See have begun detailed planning with their counterparts in London. Tentative plans for the trip reportedly include a papal address to a university audience at Oxford; an address at historic Westminster Hall, where St. Thomas More was tried and condemned; and quite possibly the beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman, which could be scheduled for September 19.
