In bankruptcy court, abuse victims demand meeting with Wilmington bishop
November 05, 2009
A federal bankruptcy-court judge has ruled against a request from a lawyer for sex-abuse victims to require Bishop W. Francis Malooly to attend a meeting with the creditors of the Wilmington, Delaware diocese. The victims' attorney also argued that his clients will suffer psychological damage if they do not have an opportunity to testify in court about their experiences. The victims have protested the decision of the Wilmington diocese to seek bankruptcy protection, thereby stalling all trials in sex-abuse lawsuits.
