Vatican conference to weigh effects of globalization on migrants Facebook Twitter November 03, 2009

The Pontifical Council for Migrants has unveiled plans for the 6th World Congress for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Refugees, which will convene in Rome next week. The congress will focus on the effects of globalization on the phenomenon of migration. Archbishop Antonio Maria Veglio, the president of the Pontifical Council for Migrants, explained: "Globalization has created a new labor market and, consequently, forced many to emigrate, also in order to flee from poverty, misery, natural catastrophes and local and international conflicts, as well as from political or religious persecution."
