Propositions of the African Synod

October 27, 2009

The Vatican has published, in English translation, the full text of the 57 propositions approved by the Synod of Bishops for Africa in a final meeting of the Synod's general congregation on October 24.

Pope Benedict has begun the practice of allowing publication of the propositions approved by Synod meetings. In the past these propositions were addressed only to the Roman Pontiff, who used them as the basis for an apostolic exhortation summarizing and concluding the work of the Synod. Pope Benedict has decided that the propositions should be made public immediately after the Synod meeting, with the apostolic exhortation to follow later.
