Portrait of Vatican official at center of controversial probes
October 26, 2009
John Allen of the National Catholic Reporter offers a portrait of Cardinal Franc Rodé, the prefect of the Congregation for Religious. Cardinal Rodé, Allen notes, is now a central figure in two investigations being conducted under the auspices of the Vatican: one into the life of women's religious orders in the US, the other into the Legionaries of Christ. The cardinal does not speak directly of either probe, but offers a few clear hints about his own attitudes.
