Catholic college president writes on maintaining Catholic identity
October 26, 2009
In an article originally published in the New England Journal of Higher Education and reprinted by the Providence Journal, the president of Assumption College writes about the challenges of maintaining a distinctively Catholic identity in an institution of higher learning. Francesco Cesareo tackles the questions of religious freedom, stem-cell research, and homosexuality. In his article-- originally published before this year's controversy over President Obama's appearance at Notre Dame-- he states unequivocally: "Catholic colleges should not permit the existence of a pro-choice group or speaker on campus, though some do."
