Sudanese bishop fears new outbreak of civil war

Sudan's long and bloody civil war, which pitted the government in the (mostly Muslim) north against rebels (mostly Christians or animists) in the south, could flare up again, warned Bishop Macram Gassis of El Obeid. The peace treaty that ended the war called for a vote on secession for the country's southern region. The bishop noted with concern that both sides are amassing weapons as the vote approaches.
