Archbishop: Anglican diocese will survive as ‘small but wealthy cult’

October 21, 2009

Speaking before the announcement of Pope Benedict’s decision to permit Anglican communities to join the Catholic Church as communities, a leading Anglican prelate predicted that his diocese would survive as a “small but wealthy cut.”

Reflecting on why God might have permitted the diocese to lose 60% of its investments during the financial crisis, Anglican Archbishop Peter Jensen of Sydney said his diocese is “up against a large challenge and there is no guarantee whatever that we will survive except as a small but wealthy cult.”

“The cultural mood is not flowing with us,” he added. “Immigrant numbers are not in our favor.”
