Pope's prayer intentions for September 2009

September 01, 2009

The Vatican has released the prayer intentions of Pope Benedict XVI for September 2009. The Holy Father's general intention is: "That the word of God may be better known, welcomed and lived as the source of freedom and joy."

The Pope's missionary intention-- far more specific than is customary-- calls for prayers for the oppressed Christians of three countries in southeast Asia. He asks for prayers: "That Christians in Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar, who often meet with great difficulties, may not be discouraged from announcing the Gospel to their brothers, trusting in the strength of the Holy Spirit."
