Australian initiative, backed by Al Gore, seeks to reduce Church's carbon footprint
CWN - July 21, 2009
Catholic environmentalists in Australia are conducting a "carbon audit" of church institutions, and putting forward the remarkable claim that Church activities create carbon emissions equivalent to the entire non-military activity of the Australian government. Jacqui Redmond, director of Catholic Earthcare, has won support from members of the Australian hierarchy-- and from former US Vice President Al Gore-- for her plan to create a "strategic, systems-based integrated initiative" reducing the environmental impact of the Church.
