Pope denounces usury

Pope Benedict XVI referred to usury as a "social blight" and a "humiliating form of slavery" during a July 1 audience with members of the Italian National Anti-Usury Council. The Holy Father said that government should provide support and assitance for families "who find the courage to denounce" loan sharks.
