British doctors seek clearance to discuss faith with patients

The British Medical Association will hear a plea this week from doctors seeking assurance that they will not face disciplinary action if they discuss spiritual matters with their patients. Atheists oppose any mention of religion in medical settings under the auspices of the National Health Service; the doctors seeking a rule change argue that religious discussions can be helpful when treated sensitively.
