Archpriest of Roman basilica reflects on Pauline Year

June 26, 2009

With the closing of the Pauline Year, the archpriest of the Roman basilica of St. Paul's Outside-the-Walls offered his perspectives on the success of the observance at a press briefing in Rome on June 26. Cardinal Andrea Cordero Lanza di Montezemolo reported that the basilica he supervises has welcomed hundreds of thousands of pilgrims during the year, "and over recent weeks we have certainly seen more than ten thousand a day." The cardinal said that the Pauline Year had seen a "great ferment of pastoral initiatives, catechesis, and cultural events" to stimulate evangelization, and a significant increase in ecumenical activity, particularly with the Orthodox churches.
