Vatican expert sees Islamic culture in need of insights from Christianity

At a conference in Venice dedicated to Catholic relations with the Islamic world, Father Samir Khalil Samir, a Jesuit expert on relations with Islams, advanced the argument that contemporary Muslims need insights from the Christian world in order to avoid the collapse of their culture. Islam looks upon the modern world as an enemy of the faith, Father Samir observed; Christianity, having coped with modernity for generations, can offer Muslims a model for protecting the faith without rejecting modernity altogether.
