East Timor to allow abortion in some cases
June 11, 2009
The parliament of East Timor has enacted legislation allowing legal abortion in cases where the mother's life would be in danger. The legislation is more restrictive than a proposal approved earlier this year by the Council of Ministers, which would have allowed for legal abortion if doctors certified that the pregnancy could adversely affect the mother's physical or mental health.
