Respect children's rights, family role, Pope urges UN

Pope Benedict XVI has called for the full implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was ratified 20 years ago. In a message that was read out to UN officials in Geneva by Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, the permanent observer for the Holy See, the Pontiff urged "respecting the inviolable dignity and rights of children." To do so, he said, would imply also "recognizing the fundamental educational mission of the family."
