Indian priest faces life sentence for abuse

A Catholic priest in India’s Kerala state has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of raping a minor girl.

Father Edwin Figarez was sentenced to two life terms, to run concurrently, and fined for his offense. His brother has been sentenced to a one-year term for helping Father Figarez hide from police prior to his arrest. And a doctor at a state clinic has been convicted of failure to report the abuse after having examined the rape victim.
