Jewish leader decries genocide of Christians in Middle East

December 07, 2016

At a December 5 interfaith forum in New York, the president of the World Jewish Congress pleaded for concerted action to stop the genocide of Christians.

“Today we are witnessing the world’s indifference to the slaughter of Christians in the Middle East and Africa,” said Ronald Lauder, president of the World Jewish Congress. “Jews know what happens when the world is silent to mass slaughter. We learned it the hard way.”

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who was present at the forum, said that when he speaks with bishops from the Middle East, “they don’t say a lot, but unfailingly cry and plead not to be forgotten. They feel desperate, alone, and isolated … We have a God who is calling us to a sense of justice, advocacy, and charity.”
