Pope to issue apostolic letter at conclusion of jubilee year

November 18, 2016

The Holy See Press Office has announced that Pope Francis will release an apostolic letter on the conclusion of the extraordinary jubilee year of mercy.

The letter, entitled Misericordia et Misera, will be released on November 21. (The title contains a noun and an adjective; it literally means, “Mercy and Miserable” or “Mercy and Wretched.”)

At the conclusion of the great jubilee of the year 2000, Pope St. John Paul II likewise issued an apostolic letter, Novo Millennio Ineunte.

I suspect Misera is intended as a substantive adjective, which would make the title "Mercy and the Wretched (ones)" or "Mercy and the Miserable (ones)".
