German cardinal shocked by Trump election

November 15, 2016

Cardinal Karl Lehmann, who led the German Bishops’ Conference from 1987 to 2008, has expressed shock at the election of Donald Trump, according to the Austrian bishops’ news agency.

Cardinal Lehmann, 80, fears a growing “populist groundswell” and said that the media underestimated the number of Americans who feel they are “social losers” (gesellschaftliche Verlierer). The prelate added that he could not understand why so many voters “fall for” populist assertions.

I'm an American Catholic and lifelong Democrat. This statement by Trump - which Hillary could never have uttered - is why I voted for him: "I have a message for Catholics: I will be there for you. I will stand with you. I will fight for you....On life, I am, and will remain, pro-life. I will defend your religious liberties and the right to fully and freely practice your religion, as individuals, business owners and academic institutions." (https://goo.gl/HQGWMV)

Does the Cardinal not know that Americans are shocked by the unabated flow of refugees into Europe debasing their culture, and Angela Merkel's failure to put reasonable immigration controls in place?

Lehmann does not understand reasons for Trump's election. I receive daily emails from several American Catholic news-agencies, and it is clear that many Catholics voted for Trump because he promised to defend Catholic views against abortion and same-sex marriage, while Clinton wholeheartedly supports abortion on demand and same-sex marriage and would force Catholic health institutions to perform immoral actions. A commonly expressed view was, 'incredible Trump better than corrupt Clinton'.

Who cares what this Liberal German Bishop thinks? He is already causing trouble in his own country. Mind your own business, Bishop!

What a hypocrisy from one of the leading "populists" in the German Catholic Church --- who is currently encouraging the German bishops to act swiftly on implementing Amoris Laetitia's questionable options that include allowing Sacraments to the adulterers ... is time running out on them???
