Myanmar: cardinal suggests return to church-administered schools

Cardinal Charles Bo of Yangon, Myanmar, has suggested that the government should revive the Catholic-school system, to restore the country’s educational standards.

Cardinal Bo said that Myanmar (then known as Burma) had the highest educational standards in Asia before the nationalization of the school system beginning in 1965. Prior to nationalization, chuches administered the country’s schools. “The Church is ready to contribute once again,” he said.
