Italian bishops decry ‘throwaway culture’ in message for pro-life day

October 25, 2016

The Italian bishops’ conference has issued a statement for the country’s annual pro-life day, encouraging Catholics to reject a way of life founded on consumerism and materialism. The message said:

Teaching about life means getting involved in a civilized revolution that heals the throwaway culture, the mentality of falling birthrates and demographic collapse, promoting the defense of every human person from the first blossoming of life until its natural end.

The annual pro-life day is observed in Italy on February 5. The Italian bishops’ conference issued its message for the 2017 observance on October 22, the feast of St. John Paul II.
