Terror fears prompt tighter security around Canterbury cathedral

Heavily armed police officers are patrolling the area around Canterbury Cathedral, because of heightened concerns about terror attacks.

Law-enforcement officials in England have stepped up security at a number of high-profile sites. The Canterbury cathedral—the seat of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the worldwide leader of the Anglican communion—is now guarded by police carrying assault rifles.

Security measures at the cathedral were redoubled following the murder of Father Jacques Hamel in Paris.
