Realism necessary in handling European immigrants, says Croatian prelate
September 26, 2016
Church leaders "need to be very realistic about the crisis of refugees arriving in Europe," Cardinal Joip Bozanic of Zagreb told a meeting of European Catholic officials working with migrants.
The Croatian cardinal explained that "not all European countries are in a position to guarantee that those arriving are going to be treated equally." He said that the Church should be sensitive to the need of refugees and migrants, and encourage "a culture of solidarity and welcome," but should also be aware of the "huge economic discrepancies between countries within the European Union."
