Pope visits neonatal unit, hospice

September 19, 2016

As part of his “mercy Friday” initiative during the jubilee year of mercy, Pope Francis visited a hospital and a hospice on September 16.

In the morning, the Pope visited the accident/emergency and neonatal units of San Giovanni Addolorata Hospital and spent time with families of seriously ill newborns.

In the afternoon, he visited will 30 terminally ill patients at the Hospice Villa Speranza north of Rome.

The surprise visits, according to the Holy See Press Office, “send a strong signal about the importance of life from its first moment until its natural end.”
