Chile: 100,000 join in pro-life rally

An estimated 100,000 people took part in a pro-life rally in Santiago, Chile, last weekend, as the country heads toward a political showdown over a bid to liberalize the country's law against abortion.
A ban on abortion, enacted in 1989, still exists in Chile. But a measure to allow the practice in some cases had been passed by the lower house of the country's parliament, and-- with the enthusiastic backing of President Michelle Bachelet-- now only needs Senate approval to become law.
