Cardinal Marx warns against suspension of EU-US trade negotiations

Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Munich, the president of the Commission of the Bishops' Conferences of the European Community, has expressed concern at calls by European leaders for the suspension of TTIP negotiations.

TTIP is the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership, the trade agreement that is being negotiated in secret between the US and the EU.
“Stopping the TTIP negotiations would not solve the current problems,” said Cardinal Marx. “A just global economic order requires common rules. The TTIP could be a way to achieve this goal.”

I am ambivalent on this one. One the one hand, should it be comforting to hear that Cdl Marx has his ear to rail on the EU trade agreements while the spiritual economy of his own land is in ruins? On the other hand, would the German church have a small but improved chance at a spiritual recovery if Marx and his friends turned their attention to matters other than religion—the European prelates seem to have the touch that kills.
