Indian cardinal sees Father Hamel as model for clergy

August 11, 2016

Cardinal Oswald Gracias of Mumbai, India has exhorted his priests to imitate Father Jacques Hamel, and show the determination to be faithful "up to the end."

At an annual meeting for priests, Cardinal Gracias said that rather than mourning Father Hamel's violent death at the hands of Islamic terrorists, priests should see him as an example of dedication. The French priest's death, he said, should have an impact on "the pastoral ministry of all priests today."
