Colorado priest, 2 laity receive USCCB pro-life award

August 10, 2016

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, has conferred the People of Life Award on a Colorado priest, an archdiocesan pro-life director, and a doctor.

Father William Carmody of Colorado Springs, who died earlier this year of cancer, received a posthumous award. He offered Mass weekly in front a Planned Parenthood clinic, started Project Rachel in his diocese, and helped found 40 Days for Life.

Other award recipients were Mary Boyert, who served as director of the Archdiocese of Atlanta’s Respect Life Ministry from 1999 to 2015, and Michael Brescia of New York, who has devoted his practice to palliative care for the terminally ill.
