Bishop fears South Sudanese refugee crisis

August 05, 2016

A South Sudanese bishop has warned of a looming refugee crisis unless the international community takes action to help end the conflict there.

“This conflict has attracted little attention in Europe, Americas or Asia, which are dealing with their own crises,” said Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala of Tombura-Yambio. “But if South Sudan is ignored, the tide of refugees reaching Europe’s shores could be swelled.”

“As Christians we are obliged by our faith in God to carry a message, and we have to continue to carry it despite the thorns, despite blood and daily difficulties,” he added. “More than any other times in South Sudan, this is a time for repentance.”
