Over 20,000 at funeral for Chinese 'underground' bishop
August 02, 2016
More than 20,000 mourners attended the funeral of BIshop Vincent Huang Shoucheng of Mindong, China, the AsiaNews service reports.
Despite discouragement from government officials, who had not recognize Bishop Huang, mourners filled the streets around the cathedral. Church officials had negotiated details of the funeral with government officials, who had-- in an unusual concession-- allowed some public acknowledgment of the deceased bishop's status.
