Gossip is 'terrorism of words,' Pope tells young people in Poland

July 28, 2016

In a question-and-answer session with young people in Poland on July 27, Pope Francis decried gossip as a form of terrorism.

The Pope answered questions from three young people who were in Poland for World Youth Day. In answer to one question about bullying, he said that "gossip is terrorism, it's the terrorism of words." He said that Christians should respond with patience, a willingness to forgive, and prayers that God will heal the wounds made by hostile words.

In answer to another question, from a young man who had been in Nice, France, during the recent terrorist incident there, the Pope said that Christians should always build bridges rather than walls.
