French bishops announce day of fasting, prayer after murder of priest

July 27, 2016

The Catholic bishops of France have designated Friday, July 29, as a day of fasting and prayer in response to the murder of Father Jacques Hamel by Islamic terrorists.

"We need peace, we need fraternity, we need to build a society where people love each other, and we will continue this path,” said Msgr. Olivier Ribeadeau Dumas, the secretary-general of the French bishops' conference, in announcing the day of fasting and prayer. “The Catholic Church in France wants that.”
