US bishops urge Catholic action against destructive stem cell research

Officially launching an “Oppose Destructive Stem Cell Research” campaign, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is urging Catholics to make known their opposition to the embryonic stem cell research by contacting Congress and the National Institutes of Health. The comment period for the Obama administration’s draft guidelines on embryonic stem cell research ends on May 26, and some in Congress “want to obtain stem cells by destroying human embryos specially generated for research through in vitro fertilization (IVF) or cloning procedures-- a ‘create to kill’ policy.”
