Mexican bishop appalled by kidnapping during Mass

May 24, 2016

Bishop Eduardo Patiño Leal of Cordoba, Mexico, decried a culture of violence that is "getting worse and worse" after a man was kidnapped from a church in Veracruz during Mass on May 21.

The bishop remarked that "churches are not longer places of peace and communion," and lamented that criminals appear to act with impunity in the region. The kidnapping was almost certainly done for ransom, the Fides news service reports.
