Retired admiral appointed to US bishops’ National Review Board

May 20, 2016

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has named two new members of the National Review Board, the lay body established that assists the US bishops’ conference in preventing the sexual abuse of minors.

The new members are Rear Admiral Garry E. Hall, a retired naval officer, and Ernest Stark, a Catholic school educator who has chaired review boards of various religious communities.

Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, the USCCB’s president, also reappointed Francesco Cesareo as the National Review Board’s chairman. Cesareo is president of Assumption College in Massachusetts.

Here's hoping that the new members will review the effectiveness of current policies based on recent revelations of diocesan failures to vet clergy from other dioceses and and to prosecute clergy accused of abuse.
