Chile’s bishops call for civic dialogue

Invoking the Holy Spirit as the “force of personal and social transformation,” the standing committee of the Episcopal Conference of Chile issued a statement calling for sincere dialogue to help overcome the conflicts the nation faces.

The bishops cited an ecological disaster in the Los Lagos region, arson attacks by some members of indigenous Mapuche people, increasing governmental centralization, the “judicialization” of society, and the need for dialogue between the older and younger generations.
The nation of 18 million is 74% Catholic.
