Raleigh bishop calls for reversal of controversial 'bathroom bill'

May 09, 2016

BIshop Michael Burbidge of Raleigh, North Carolina, has said that state's new law prohibiting men from using women's restrooms should be repealed and replaced by more prudent legislation.

BIshop Burbidge-- who had opposed the Charlotte ordinance that gave rise to the state law--said that the legislation was too broad, giving rise to complaints that it would result in discrimination on the basis of "gender identity." Citing the nationwide protest campaign against the North Carolina law, the bishop said: “Maybe we tried to do too much within that one bill that has created such discord.”

Bishop Burbidge: Not all "discrimination" is wrong, especially when it's based on relevant observable differences between the things compared. Gender-confused men and women want to pretend to be the opposite sex. The rest of the population -- estimated at 99.7% -- does not. The gender-confused deserve our pity and help, not our approval, when they act out their confusion.

Courage, man! Look at the DNA! Let us have more courage, and less confusion.

Michael Burbidge, with all due respect for your office of Bishop, I couldn't disagree more with you. As stated by another person writing into this forum, the aim isn't just to use a rest for the obvious purpose, it is to attack the church just as those who are promoting euthanasia, assisted suicide, abortion, and contraception. And that's been going on since Pope Paul VI.

Another victim of the culture wars. How blind can a bishop be to see what is going on? Many seem to have learned nothing from 50+ years of appeasing progressives who mock God and want to destroy the Church. They want all Christians to become "Episcopalians" who are "Relativists" in all things. What is even worse is the evil of exposing my granddaughters to men in their bathroom? This is "anti-girl." This is "spiritual insanity" to the nth degree. They deny God's Creation and want to be "God"

Here I thought the discord was created by demented men who want to relieve themselves in the Ladies room. No? Did I miss something?

Dear Bishop Burbidge, u r operating under an incorrect assumption, that the state could ever write laws that would please those in the lgbt lobby. Their sole interest is the destruction of western, Catholic culture, which has evolved enough after 2000 years, along with the evolution of the common law, to make passage of a statutory law a simple process, but they still complain. The sooner u realize this, u can save urself more self inflicted embarrassments from ur next public statement.
