Preservation work done on oldest manuscript of Spiritual Exercises
April 28, 2016
A team of preservation experts has worked for over a year to preserve the oldest manuscript of St. Ignatius of Loyola’s Spiritual Exercises.
Since the sixteenth century, the manuscript’s acidic ink has slowly damaged the thin silk paper on which the manuscript was written. With the preservation work completed, the manuscript, which includes handwritten notes by St. Ignatius, has been returned to the Society of Jesus’ archives.
