Pope pays tribute to athletic values, virtues

Pope Francis received members of the Austrian Skiing Federation in audience on April 20 and paid tribute in his brief remarks to “the virtues and the values manifested by sports: commitment, perseverance, determination, fair play, solidarity, team spirit.”

“Always be messengers of the uniting power of sport and hospitality,” he continued. “Be messengers of safeguarding the environment and the beauty of God’s creation.”
