Bishop helps broker peace deal in South Sudan
April 12, 2016
A South Sudanese bishop has helped broker a peace agreement between the nation’s government and South Sudan National Liberation Movement, a local rebel group.
Bishop Edward Hiiboro Kussala of Tombura-Yambio is head of the Council for Peace, a local organization of Christian and Muslim leaders.
“This is the first kind of peace deal to be realized in one of the 28 [states] of South Sudan,” the prelate said, according to a Fides report. “After the signing of the agreement comes the arduous task of rebuilding our broken pieces.”
