At UN, Vatican envoy decries victimization of women in warfare

Speaking at a UN Security Council session on the role of women in preventing conflicts in Africa, the Vatican's representative called attention to the people-- especially women religious-- who have helped the women who are victims of warfare.
Archbishop Bernardito Auza remarked that "old and new forms of violence directed against women and girls" remain tragically commonplace. He specified "in particular the use of rape as a weapon of war during conflicts, the abuses in refugee camps, the trafficking of women and girls for sexual exploitation, forced abortion, forced conversion and forced marriage."
Archbishop Auza cited the education of young women as the key to their empowerment, and said that "ensuring that all girls and women have access to education is indispensable."
During his address the archbishop said that he felt compelled to pay tribute to the four members of the Missionaries of Charity who were slain in Yemen earlier this month.

The newest victimization of women in the U.S. is the recent push to integrate them into combat units. Travesty enough that they are allowed to work alongside men in the close quarters of a submarine. But when standards have to be lowered and morale has to be disrupted to squeeze some of them into Force Recon and similar units, the practical atheists have gone too far.
