Relatives of Romero, Argentine victims greet Pope

At the conclusion of his March 23 general audience in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francis embraced Cecilia Romero, who was 18 when her uncle, Blessed Óscar Romero, was martyred in 1980.
“I do not forget the climate of terror and the pain of all the Salvadoran people for the killing a man who was a point of reference for all,” she said. “The legacy of Msgr. Romero asks us to continue to fight for the rights of every person.”
Nearly 40 years to the day after a coup d’état ushered in a seven-year Argentine military dictatorship, Pope Francis also greeted relatives of two of its more prominent victims, Marie Anne Erize and Sister Léonie Duquet, a French missionary.
