Vatican newspaper lauds Obama visit to Cuba

March 22, 2016

The vice-editor of L’Osservatore Romano welcomed President Barack Obama’s visit to Cuba as the end of the post-World War II era of conflicts and as a manifestation of dialogue, “a way rarely traveled in the resolution of international controversies.”

“The embargo is still in force, and it will not be easy for Obama to obtain its repeal, in the very year of the presidential election, by a Congress controlled by Republicans,” Giuseppe Fiorentino added in a front-page op-ed article.

Fiorentino also contrasted Obama’s openness with the “new European walls constructed against migrants.”

Yes, yes. Walls everywhere in the West. But not in the Communist strongholds. Echoes of Pope Francis. Hail Obama.
